Tiago

I'm learning that there're many male models in Montreal anxious to get in front if the camera because most photographers prefer photographing girls (big surprise). So maybe there's a niche to be filled. :)

Here's another new face at Specs Models - Tiago.

Bridal and Decor Editorial in Solomon Gardens

This creative happened a little over a year ago. The weather was as cold as we are having today plus wind!

The story behind this photo shoot is very simple: few wedding vendors of Greater Moncton Area (including myself) got together and decided to dedicate their time and talent to creating something special and different from the ordinary. And so we did.

We thank Wedding Bells for featuring us:

I hope you enjoy the images!

I also invite you to check out the behind the scenes video and meet our creative team for this shoot.

Tsesarevich. Present days. Part I

Tsesarevich was the title of the Tsar's (Emperor's) son successor in the Russian Empire.
This concept came to me after the photo shoot. I thought that that's what character of Tsesarevich would be like today: young, arrogant, impudent and under no one's authority.

Behind the Portraits.

There is a lot of retouching involved in creating every single portrait. This process takes very big part in my portrait photography. By "a lot of retouching"I mean many tiny adjustments almost on pixel level with one goal - to smooth out and diminish skin's imperfections and flows, while preserving its original texture. I want to make it look healthy with a touch of glow.

Retouching has always been important to me, and I've been developing and perfecting my process since I picked up a camera.

I created this video to show my retouching process from start to finish. And because web compression can sometimes completely ruin the image, it's important to remember one thing - how it will look on a print!  Image can look plenty great on an iPhone, for example, and pretty terrible on a print!

Jen of City Models.

This portrait of Jen (City Models) is one of the best I've ever created. It's been 5 months since this session and I still like it, unlike my other work.
We started the session from very casual outfit: blue jeans, high heels, white top...you get the idea.  We shot for a while and then we decided to change in all black and I wanted to use this old beat up beach heat. After session was over I trashed everything I shot prior to the hat shot. Every other shot suffered in comparison (except the second one).
There is no credit for stylist or make up artist, cause there weren't any.

Marathon Photo shoot

Few months back (eight, to be exact) I and Denis Duquette had a photo shoot involving over 50 creative young people from Moncton, which eventually became known as the Marathon shoot.
It was not easy to go through 5000+ images to select and edit only best ones, with this pretty busy wedding season that I had this year. But, the images are finally ready.

During last two weeks of making final touch ups to the images, I was often thinking what an awesome day that was.  27 models were photographed in over 18 hours. Everyone was busy doing their thing. There was so much creativity flowing in the air that you could cut it with a knife. Why can't we do it every day...

Anyway, this is it. Make sure you read Denis's Blog post about that day, he's a great writer and his post will give you much better idea about what was going on.

Marathon photoshoot. Prologue.

Somewhere in Downtown Moncton (NB, Canada!) two photographers, me (wedding and portrait photographer Sasha Onyshcheko) and portrait and fashion photographer Denis Duquette, meet:

Denis: "Hey, man!"
Me:  "How is it going, buddy?"
Denis: "So, how about we get together and shoot some models sometime?"
Me: - "Sounds good, I'm in!"

We let few people know about what we want to do and over next month this casual session grew into massive marathon photoshoot with over 50 local people involved. It became a huge project with professional make up artists and hairstylists, professional and aspiring models, photographers and videographers for behind the scenes (BTS) coverage and all this crowd was hosted by Corkum Photographics studio.

The photoshoot was scheduled for April 10th. The plan was to photograph 30 models in one day. Due to some last minute cancelations we ended up with 27 models and it took us 18 hours to photograph them.

My fiance is posing during light check on setup night.

It was an artistic collaboration between everyone who was part of it.  Without realizing it, we created a perfect opportunity for expanding our creative boundaries, for experiments and for trying things outside of our comfort zone. Needless to say, that such project attracted lot's of talents from our home town.

Everyone was working tirelessly from 6am until past the midnight with one reason - for the sake of their craft!

This post is just an introduction. You didn't really think that I would post pictures here, did you?! haha....

Meanwhile here is our video teaser of BTS:

Special thanks to Denis for putting this video together! Great Job, buddy!

And check out Dan MacDonald's blog for BTS photos.

There is a lot more at works right now: interviews with photographers, closer look BTS, what lighting we used, how we did, and of course images!
   So, check back for updates!

Slash. Look-a-like

I'm a big fan of Slash's and that's why it was such a great pleasure to work on this idea and the images.
The idea was to recreate Slash's solo from "November Rain" music video and to shoot against church on a background.

Initial photoshoot was almost over and I was gonna get ready to wrap up, but who could resist that sunset?! Not me. 10 min of shooting during the sunset made up for whole day of preparations and 2 hours of shooting during the daylight.
